How were cows killed before there was guns?

That's a possibility that I had thought of, although I'm not sure how they would hold a cow down while they're sliting it's throat.
They must of had a lot of people to help them hold the cow down.
I still don't know though, cows are some pretty strong animals.

ETA: I guess they could've knocked the cow out first and then slit it's throat.
they do it standing.... you can see youtube videos on it. if you arent squeemish.

Yes, kosher and hallah methods are the same but, I think then they would hang the cow up (or maybe later) so all the blood runs out.

I know when my mother prepared raw meat she would use kosher salt soak and then also drain and rinse before cooking.
 
i would think cutting and bleeding out would be the method of choice for people who did not have a gun (now define gun are we talking fire arm? or one of those bolt guns)

as blood i know is supposed to make an off putting taste to animals. (maybe that is why wild game is said to taste "gamey")
