How will geese react to new ducklings?

I was thinking about getting some ducklings from TSC since they have some available now. How would my 6 geese react when I eventually add the ducks to the flock? I know they'll have to work out the new "pecking order", but will they be fine living together? Should I get a larger breed of duck like Pekins so they will be closer to the size of a goose? My geese seem pretty friendly so I was hoping they would be accepting of a few ducks. Also any advice on how to adjust the ducks and geese to live together?

Give it a try and see what happens. You never know. My ducks and geese were raised together as ducklings and goslings. When they became adult the geese beat up on the ducks and the ducks learned to stay out of the way of the geese. Didn't draw blood but the ducks lost feathers now and then.

It’s always best to introduce any new poultry to resident flock by using a meet and greet pen let them live side by side for a while and this is ideal time to do it since breeding season is past for geese.

The last of May I had one duck 2weeks old and 8 -2day old geese that I put together (duck bigger than geese)in a cage inside barn. I have 3(11/2 yr old) geese.
One morning my grdaughter let the babies out for holding, playing and get acquainted time. The grown geese took over, fascinated by the babies . We watched them carefully to see what would happen, did not hurt them at all. Put the babies back in wire cage on ground in barn with geese. The next day let babies out with geese and they raising them and the duck.NO PROBLEM so far. We still watch them off and on but the babies are as big as the adults. Can you see the black/white duck in picture?

Our 6 geese and six ducklings were raised together from the beginning. The geese literally killed in year three two duck hens by bloodying their heads. I would never keep geese and ducks together or Guineas and chickens—whole other story.

Hi! Welcome to BYC! I'm so sorry about your ducks, did you immediately put them in the same pen together, or did you slowly introduce them with a see not touch area? Thanks for sharing your experience, though I don't think these members will respond, since this thread is 3 years old. Otherwise, Welcome! Make your self at home here!
