How would you like to find this in your henhouse??

I hate a spider! There are massive ones that live here and wander into our house. My DH had to go to the ER last year from a spider bite. His head swolled up like a basketabll.

I have heard of bird eating spiders before....Wow, a chicken though.....that is just crazy! I would be having a heart attatck if I found a spider eating a chicken.

So sorry poor tarantula would go "splat" if found in my coop. I love my chickens more than I love saving wildlife and insects.

. OP if your going to free range your chickens still be careful. I have a friend whose roo got bitten by a black widow. He almost died and still has, I'm guessing, neurological problems. He stumbles around, always has his head tucked under him (walking, resting, etc), and his feathers are a really weird pattern of dark brown and black (used to be a Millie Fleur D Uccle). Note my friend doesn't believe in culling unless there is no chance and the animal is suffering way too much. The roo is just clumsy not in any pain or anything.

I looked at a couple of links with that Martin Nichols researching this spider. What I thought was interesting was the part where he said they found a frog in the spider's den. like thier personal maid servant. Sounds so Flinestone-ish to me----with the elephant vaccuum cleaner...
