I guess I don't see anything to get upset over?!?! She simply stated that she was sad that you can't go but she is still making a day out of it with the kids..
And commenting that you have to work??? so you have to work... she didn't say you were poor or had no money simply that you have to work. lots of people work no biggie...
Hope you don't take it as a personal attack you may be feeling like that out of feeling guilty that you cannot make it...
Just my opinion from what I am reading here, you know your sister better than I.
I would not expect someone to be happy if I canceled on them very close to our date. ESPECIALLY if they had taken a day off of work - these days vacation days are hard to get and when we need them we don't have enough of them, say for illness, etc. I'd hang my head and apologize.
If I posted anything on FB, I'd post - 'I was so sorry to miss our date, Love, Your sister'.

That's how I read it, too. Just sad she can't hang out with you, but going to make the best of the situation.

I agree with this one.Me, I can't wait to go shopping WITHOUT the kids for their supplies. They are grumpy enough just thinking about going back to school. And goodwill here I come 75 cent cloths!
Even though you did not have the money to spend to shop for you -- why couldn't you go and help her shop and enjoy the day together? As far as the FB comment, sounded to me that she was disappointed that you were not going to be with her.
maybe she really meant that it's too bad you had to work... in a positive way, like she would have enjoyed the time with you. I could take that post in either direction, so, your response, if any, will determine the direction you want to take it. I'd either not respond, or tell her you "wish you could have spent the day with her as well." No one else on FB needs to know you didn't have the money.
