from Ohio. So glad you joined. I would forget the nails and go with screws. They are easier to put in and way easier to take out when the chicken math takes over and you need to make more room to their pen.

 already in the process ....... though I am looking at building from scratch and large open-air coop (hopefully).
RBF - wow not many huh!!!
yeah I didn't realise just how many different varieties there are out there and was going to get some Isa Browns but a friend got me onto a Breeder in Emerald and well ........ I didn't want standard layers after that and HAD to go for something "prettier" ......... not that Isa's aren't sweeties they are just so common and I wanted something different.
We don't eat a lot of eggs here so "production" wasn't my selling point anyway but I do have a few friends who have offered to buy my eggs when the girls get big enough to lay and I couldn't have Bantams because anything Magpie/Galah sized the cat will HAPPILY hunt and kill.
I am about to order the Fresh air coop book from ebay. I think I like the idea of that as it makes good sense to me. The original farm coop has two HUGE windows and high ceilings (I cannot even touch them) and it faces SE so I think DH's GGM and GM knew a thing or two about keeping chooks.
FIL has only one grip about them and that was the mess they use to make in the dairy shed and "hinted" that was a big problem but I have assured him that when we start designing the run and (eventually) are able to occupy the whole space that I will still have the gates opening into our garden when the girls are free ranging.
but thats 15/20 years away hopefully (we will only be able to occupy the whole space once both MIL and FIL are dead as we inherit 17 acres of the 350)
ANYWAYS ........ back into the forums to do some poking around.
