I recently got 2 different breeds of hen and was wondering if they are to young to out outside in my coop. They are roughly 4 or 5 weeks old. It's been above 40 degrees every night. I've never raised hens before
Hi, Welcome! Nights are now warm enough - at sea level and valleys - for feathered out Chicks to spend nights in their Coop...as long as they are protected from predators, rain and strong drafts that may be best for them now. Watch them on a chilly morning to see how they are self-regulating, by gathering together, using wings, finding shelter. Hope you have more than 2 chicks? They help each other stay warm. Our last frost date is usually April 10th in Oregon.. Late this year - at night that is. Of course, Bend and eastern Oregon and SW Oregon may be an entirely different thing. In the Portland area, we need to provide shade and be sure it does not get too hot in the coop during the day already! 65 degrees is comfy. Lots of fresh water in the shade is good too. Multiple water sources, as they will step on and spill whatever they can, LOL.
