Howdy Y'all

Glad you decided to join us. Good luck with your move and getting your new flock.

I do sell some hatching eggs each year. This past summer I shipped 6 to CA and that member got 4 to hatch under a broody chicken, I also shipped 6 to KS, only 1 of those hatched and they were in an incubator. Where abouts are you located? Shipping can be hard on hatching eggs, won't lie to you about that, but it can be done.
As of right now, central Pennsylvania. Depending how fast our move happens a few months could see us a few thousand miles away.

Wow, me too, south central anyway! I grew up in York and moved a hair to the west, New Oxford, half way between York and Gettysburg. You wouldn't even need eggs shipped as of now, but where might you be moving to, if you don't mind my asking, of course?

Looking at an area just inside the Rockies in Montana. Pursuing a life long dream and hoping to get into more than just a flock of chickens. Two of my boys have their heart set on owning some milk goats and we currently have a young Jersey/Brown Swiss cross heifer that we hope to take with us. I know where New Oxford is. I live just off I81 about an hour and a half north of you in the Blue Mountains

Oh my, my hubby would be so jealous. He would love to pack up and move west, seriously west like you may be doing. He is the managing partner in a sheet metal business that does a lot of work in the NY, NJ, DE area, and lets just say it has taken a toll on his love for his fellow man. He would love to get away from it all, people especially. Of course the mere mention of moving gets our 9 year-old son all upset, so we will probably have to wait a few more years until we seriously consider it. If you are serious about hatching eggs we can definitely supply some, I could meet you, or if you want to see the adults you would be welcome to come here. We sell chicks also, if you would rather get a sure thing.

When would you have eggs available? Depending how fast our move materializes, I would probably consider giving it a go on the hatching. My boys absolutely love hatching eggs. And if I hatch eggs, should I use a goose egg tray for them?

I know what your husband is feeling on the strain of working with the general public! Been self employed for 21 years. Time to make a change! 1 bad customer can ruin the pleasure of 100 good ones.

Yes you are 100% correct about the 1 bad customer, and unfortunately it never stops at 1.
The Peacocks are not like chickens, they have a laying season which runs from April thru Sept. normally. The somewhat unusual weather these last 2 years has some hens a bit out of kilter, some members are actually getting eggs right now, I am not and glad for it. My chicken eggs are frozen by the time I get to them. Usually my hens start in mid-April, last year with the really cold winter and cool spring they were about 3 weeks late. In 2014 I actually put my first eggs in the incubator in May when the year before I had chicks hatching in May. The goose tray works great and it is a 26-28 day incubation, mine are always 27 here. They need super high humidity during actual pipping and unzipping which can last 48 hours, so they will dry out without a lot of moisture. I try for 75% or higher those last 3 days.

PM me when you have eggs to sell. No idea where I'll be by then, but will very likely still be in PA for a few more months at that point. My wife's biggest concern having any peafowl was the fact that we have close neighbors and one in the past demonstrated a willingness to use her employment at the township to bully us regarding the presence of birds on our property. She is gone now and we are getting ready to relocate onto a bigger chunk of land with fewer close neighbors, so a few of those birds strutting around will not be as big a problem.

And she might even decide they're beautiful.

I will definitely send you a PM, any preference toward a particular color? Last year the Pieds started laying way before the others. Glad to hear your neighbor is gone, we had a similar one at the place we lived prior to this, and we left after 2 years, barely got unpacked there. Life's too short to spend it fighting with idiots.

In the post of pics, the top bird caught my attention immediately. I would love having eggs with potential of turning out a bird like that. I presume he is a Pied color phase?
