Hi y’all! My name is Dawn and I live in Evansville IN with my hubby and critters :) I had baneys for a couple years then a couple of Rhode Island Red Roos for a couple years. This time I been all the way up to 18 ( was working on 24) until the little devil aka the raccoon came visiting. I don’t sell my chickens as they are my damas, my ladies. I sell the extra eggs at work to the ladies who can no longer raise their own. My world has been shattered this last 2 weeks losing over half my poor girls all of which I’ve had since they were couple days old. I’d love to get into some silkies and polish - but scared to now until I know they’d be safe. Anyways- hiya and have a great day all!

We raise silkies who free range, and our home borders a forest so have all kinds of wild animals out there. Our two dogs and lots of solar motion lights keeps them all back, plus, their coop not even a bear could get in. All outdoor grow-out pens are made with 1/2" hardware cloth and covered.

Silkies can't fly, nor can they see well to run from enemies, so they are the last type of chicken I would get if you're their only protection as you can't be with them 24/7. Otherwise, if you figure out how to make them safe, you will love them! They are so friendly and adorable.
