We were outside and observed our mottled houdan (the main man of the coop) mount one of our hens. She submitted (hopefully meaning we'll have eggs soon

) but he was off of her within about 5 seconds. Hubby asked why he got off since the hen submitted, and I told him they were done. He doesn't believe that it only takes a few seconds, so I'm turing to my 'chicken buddies' to find the answer. (of course, I also made reference to why certain things are referred to as a certain name for the roos because of this 5 second thing.....)

Hmm... Is it like that with all birds? When I was 17yrs old I had a wild male duck chase a female around until she ran smack into my leg and he caught her and started doing the deed while she was still on my foot, I wouldn't know how long it takes because I was so grossed out that I launched them into the air about two feet.
