Here we go again! Ikes! Snake! Hubbbbbby! Help!

I raise and breed Moulted Java Chickens. Lately my girls stopped giving me eggs to incubate. It's been about 5 days since I've got eggs from them.
I went out to check for eggs about 30 mins ago and opened their egg hatch... I almost wet myself!

A giant Rat Snake was taking a siesta after an egg meal.
Hubby was only home for about 10 mins and I was already yelling at him, bit this time for a good reason! (HeHe)

He comes out and stuck in his hand and zoinked out the critter. He looked at me and he said.. "Whoosie".. I hate snakes.

​

He stretched it out next to a measuring tape and it was 5' 6"!
Fat from my eggs too!

​

We have him in a plastic can and we will relocate him miles away tomorrow.
Perhaps my hens will once again continue to give me beautiful fertile eggs now!

EEEKKK! My worst nightmare is reaching in for eggs and finding a snake! I might really have had a heart attack! Good for your hubby to grab him up and take him far away.

He's handsome, though. Is it okay to relocate, or will he just move to someone else's coop? Do you have regs down there about native snakes? Up here we commonly see garter snakes, and rarely any others, and I've never had an issue with any of the larger species. Happily. Mary

Google "Ocala National Forest". That is where this old timer will now live a long and happy life. Plenty of foliage and endless food supply. We share this planet with these species of snakes and they are vital to the balance of our ecosystem. We aren't seeking revenge, just protecting our investment. He has earned his keep by feasting on rats that are a genuine nuance with us lately, but the bottom line is that he has stumbled upon our egg nest. No hard feelings but... See you later alligator!.. Without harming him.

We raise Heritage swine. Our freezers are packed with prime Berkshire pork. Not hungry enough too eat a rat snake! I'm not Ted Nugent's wife!! Hehe.

You best carry along an extra can or two of gasoline if you wish to relocate very many snakes. The invasive Pythons in Florida have proven that they can return to their old haunts from over 110 miles away. If you let shakes cool their heels in a deepfreezer (say -20) for a day or two befor you relocate them you will find that the relocated serpent looses all sense of direction.
