I used to work for temp agencies all the time. And they do have these kind of rules in their fine print. "If at any time you turn down or refuse available employment when it's offered, you will be terminated from this agency." They usually use it when they don't or can't find you employment in your field, or they don't want to work with you any more. It is really dirty pull of them to use it in these hard times with gas prices being so high.
I agree it is dirty! Unfortunately; they probably had this planned...I say that only due to the crud most places pull...
"uh, we offered him another position, another job and a pay raise..he turned it down"...in order to make it sound like
he's ungrateful...its wrong..
hubby drives 45 min one way for his job..and we are scraping by..barely anything extra...I feel for you hon!!!
I'll be praying that another one is found soon!
Wow, that's too bad! My problem would be if I turned anything down, I would get into trouble with our state's EDD. But, they wouldn't expect anyone to do a three hour commute if that's not what's normal for the area.
I don't know why temp agencies do this to their most loyal workers.
I am so sorry you guys are going through this. When I was pregnant with my dd my dh was working for a temp agency too, they pulled the same stuff, goes to show you it doesn't matter if you are in a different town or in a different country altogether, they are all the same.
I hope things get better for you guys real soon. I will pray it does.
Two years ago, my hubby had to work with a company that assemble bicycles in various stores, not only in our town but Bloomington, and Champaign and Springfield. They told him after he reaches the 30 mile driving, they will start paying .25 a mile. Well needless to say, as much as he enjoyed his work but the gas expenses was killing our budget, he actually bringing home in the hole. After two months of it, I told him to quit his job. He hemmed and hawed and one day, they told him to go to Champaign and he didn't get anything, no gas expenses, except just ten dollars for a two hour job there. Sucks! Glad he quit.
I had a part time job and worked with an this one agency and everything was fine, but then they wanted me to work the overnight shift. I told them no, I have health issues with being up all night plus I have another job in the morning, I can't do it. But, EDD found out and they kicked me off for about a month or two because they said I didn't really have any reason to deny this "suitable" work. I mean, I usually do data entry and it's not normal hours for a data entry keyer. Plus, I had another job during the day. Give me a break!
Not all agencies do this, though. I've worked with a few that never pulled that. But, what they did do is give me hardly any work and then, after a few assignments, stopped giving me work totally.
