Hubby said NO MORE CHICKS INSIDE.....

So I am not the only one!!!

Now he is at the gas station getting gas for the generator. We are getting hit with a not-so-funny April Fools Day storm. Calling for Power outages. Cant have those fuzzy little butts getting cold! What a guy!

i've told my parents that im getting a coop for outside in our backyard so that the ones i have now will be able to play outside before being old enough to go to work where the big chickens are.... reality is i'm planning on having my own little silkie flock out back

Shhhhh, don't tell!!!

Men have a hard time adjusting at times. I have my two aquarium brooders on the kitchen counter, at the end away from stuff. It's a miracle he's OK with this, but he did ask 'when can they go outside?'....well, when they are ready, and large enough not to be hawk or owl food. And "when I say." Strangely, he's better w/ them in the kitchen than when I had them upstairs in my office. Have to say I clean way more w/ access to more and more room. I'm using paper towel & wax paper layers so I clean it daily. Before I was using wood pellets for animals...oh what a mess and the sawdust. Hated it.

That's so cute!! My fiance loves the chickens. It was his idea to bring them inside in the first place! I was going to brood them all outside lol.

When you have them in your house, how do you keep the dust down? I have a group in my basement and just about everything is COVERED in dust. I can see my footprints when I walk in there sometimes. I use a shop vac to try to keep it down, but it doesn't take long to build right back up.

My inside brooder is a big rubbermaid with the top attached (the top has a hole in it for the brooder lamp but thats about it). My bedding in it is paper towels that I keep adding to in order to keep it clean. The only dust or mess I get is when I drop feed on the outside of the box lol.

LOL!!! What is it with Husbands and Being softies with baby chicks!? I SERIOUSLY thought my DH would have killed me more than twice bringing home more chicks! I did it 2-3 at a time! Now for de-stressing he goes down stairs and sits with the chickens rather than sitting in front of the tv watching sports! LOL! AND! He is seriously concerned about the brand new ones, he has to sit by the brooder and watch them to make sure he SEES them eat and drink before he will go up stairs! I LOVE IT! I just WISH I had more property so I could get more! So for now we will settle for 11!

This is my first time with chickens and I have them upstairs in an unfinished portion of our cape style home. They've only been here for just over a week and my wife wanted them gone after the about the 3rd day. I am constantly tending to the chicks, changing out for fresh water, new wood shavings and scrubbing out the Tupperware container every 3-4 days. Vaccuming the floor etc...

We've been married 32 yrs and she still thinks i'm nuts (she might be right) but I caught her up there talking to them a few times already like they're little babies. Just a matter of time before she admits she likes them. She was the same way with the runt shunned kitten I took in last summer, (shes allergic to cats, or so she thought) now she is SO attached I just have to laugh, because she loves it so much.

I will let you know how it turns out when I ask her to feed the chicks, in about another week and a half/two weeks, she should be ready by then
