well chickens was not my idea, never thought of it, dh wanted a few to get eggs,, and then they got me a bator and eggs..and thats all it took...but now...Im going overboard, and wants no part of it if it can be helped.

If I am going overboard on my start of chickens, then what about him on his RABBITS?! We JUST got our beautiful white rabbit with GORGEOUS skyblue eyes named Angel well again (she had complication on the feed we were giving her), he wants to get 4 more rabbits to breed. His stepmom has 2 rabbits that ended up ACCIDENTLY having babies and he is getting 2 of them. If Im going overboard on chickens, which provide for us, then what about him on his bunnies?
BTW: he isn't the one that cleans the cage every week and feed and water the bunny everyday---I AM!

Hubby has gotten nervous with me hatching eggs but I know I can't have more than 15 or 20 max. Have 15 eggs in the bator and 4 girls, so not a big deal.
What we do here is if you want to keep it or bring more in you have to figure out how to feed it, care for it and clean up after it yourself. Hubby has his cats that he scoops/changes the boxes for but will do all of it if I take his dog to the vet and make sure she gets fed in the mornings, same with his cats. We talk over every thing we intend to acquire and how to care for it. He's been supportive on the birds, mainly because he wants eggs, but he's allergic to bird dust so I'll have to handle most of the bird chores.

Join the crowd!!!! My husband was so grateful when we moved off of our 1 acre into town again and had to get rid of most of the animals. But, now we are back on 2.5 acres (room for MORE animals!!! HeHe...) and I'm back at it again. He is now at the point where he just rolls his eyes
and says "whatever makes you happy." Mostly because I remind him that I could be breeding rats again! He didn't like that one at all!!!!!! Although he was impressed when it made us some money.
You should have seen the look on his face when I informed him that I was going to be ordering 240 quail eggs! Priceless!!!!
But, the funny thing is when people come to our house, he is the one taking them around and showing them the animals. Deep down I know he enjoys it, too.
I was shocked the other day when I asked him if I could get 3 free bunnies that someone needed to find a home for and he said "I was actually thinking about getting a few bunnies again."
I said "when were you going to tell me?" His reply was "I knew you would ask for them eventually, so I just thought it would be a matter of time." I have no idea what he is talking about...

My DH has been telling me I'm going overboard for 47 years now. It was my hobby, the cows, my gardens, chickens - completely overboard.
He never helps me with things. I am not complaining because this is is not a bad thing. I have built all my own barns and fences, and coops, and I still do. I don't need to ask him for help or permission. I am strong and healthy in my senior years and I have aquired many useful skills.
I still have a chicken run to complete (12' x 30') and an addition to my large coop before Spring. I will probably be building in the rain this fall, but by spring I will have 350 sq. ft. of coop space and way to many eggs.

I just tell people...overboard, shmoverboard...it's CHEAPER than psychotherapy!!!! And probably a lot more fun...Hey...I think I'll order 50 more chickens, just for the heck of it! Some of my babies are lonely.
