Hubby wonders if I'm cleaning the brooder too often

@NightingaleJen I’m glad you said in your head at the end of that sentence because believe it or not there are actually people who do it for real!!! I once read a story of someone who had their friend housesit and their friend took it upon themselves to “reorganize” and move everything around! they couldn’t find anything when they got back. I think they actually stopped talking to this friend which I personally think is a little bit extreme but yeah. Some people really do it!

Whoa! That is a bit much!

Though a few friends have asked for my help in this department, and I am more than happy to help. Sometimes it can be overwhelming and an outside eye/set of hands is probably helpful.

The reorganizing or the not talking to the reorganizer!? I think both are a bit much haha

And yeah I can see if someone asks you for help! That’s different imo. But to just decide to redo someone’s entire house to your (general your) liking is a bit invasive and weird IMO. I can get why someone would be upset aha

I also have a brooder plate and am curious about your use of tiles underneath. Is this to help keep their feet warm? What kind of tiles do you use? My chicks are now 2 weeks old and they seem to be on top of the plate a lot - I wonder if they are warming up their feet or if they just like being on top to play.

I use the stick on very cheap plastic tiles because I have a couple boxes laying around. I do this to trap the heat coming off the plate instead of it all just going out the wire bottom. I switch them out(only takes 2, 1x1 tiles) between every batch, replacing the old with new. I don't even bother unsticking the paper from the bottom of them. The tiles probably wouldn't be necessary if I brooded inside.

I just cleaned my brooder out after one week. But I also have it in the house. Definitely refresh/clean out the water daily and catch them up for snuggles, but stretch out the cleaning. Or maybe just “spot clean” as needed (like wet spots).

BTW, something that I read and might be helpful - Glade press and Seal plastic wrap stuff. I have that on my heat plate as they are now sitting and pooping on top of it. But with the press n seal stuff down you just pull it up and wa-la clean top!

They do sell covers for the heat plates as well.

@RobertaD1 Ha! It is funny, I am very organized and keep the house spic and span. People think we've lived here only a few months or something, it's hilarious! But by the time I was 7 or 8 I was able to clean our entire house, along with my little sister; it was just kind of our job. *shrug* Paid off, I'd say. Also, at parties, which I really don't enjoy? Half the time I end up reorganizing people's cupboards and bookshelves in my head. Actually...maybe this is a disease...

I am organized... but my artist side takes over from time to time... (my shop/studio is a...LOL, not sure theres a word) so clutter CAN get ahead. I ALSO looked...you are in rural Ohio! I TOO am from Ohio,and its rural, so you must be right down the road.. so I will expect you sometime this weekend! Masks are not required at the time inside my yard or house... but my daughter will take your temperature....LOL!

Seriously, my sister-in-law had OCD... and bragged about having it and not being medicated for it. Taking care of clutter and being tidy is one thing.... she lives on a completely different planet... and its sad really.

Ha! Our studios probably look about the same. When I am working on a big sewing project, it can look like a fabric store exploded, plus chunks of the project can migrate around the house when it comes to the bits needing to be hand-sewn. You know, a solitary sleeve just hanging out on the kitchen table.

Being tidy and clean is good. Cleanliness being next to godliness and all (mine may be due last generation to even hear that hinted at...) or, as Alton Brown says, organization will set you free. But you are right, OCD is...an issue. It has to wear one down mentally and physically, really. :/

Oh...Ohio is a big state! Hubby is a native and we've driven over much of it for my photography and for the joy of yard-saleing.

I clean my quail brooders not once a day but multiple times daily.


All waterers should be washed daily.
A brooder should never be wet or have wetness in it.

Well............
maybe not big...LOL... but then, we calculate distance, not in miles, but min and hours...LOL
You can be anywhere in the state in 4 hrs or less...LOL
....and the yard sales are totally worth it!
