Your next hatch sounds great.  Nice variety.  Any chance you'd be willing to sell any Cream Legbars?  I have 3 cockerels that I hatched out three weeks ago.  I want to trade a couple for a pullet or buy one.

I am getting ccl eggs from a breeder, so if i have a good hatch I will sell extras. I am planning on keeping at least 4 pullets. I only have a trio right now. I will let you know how it goes.

Your coop/run setup must be huge and beautiful. Between your flocks and your gardens, I'm sure you're busy all the time! Your DD is right...variety is definitely more fun :) I think we're going to need another coop or build a really big one. DH is getting into this. He wants to buy a dozen hatching eggs in a few weeks. Right now we have:: 6 cornish X's in the garage 6 Orpington chicks 6 Orpington hens 1 Orpington JERK 10 assorted hens (my original flock) 20 eggs in the incubator (minus the duds after we candle them) And tonight DH's cousin is bringing over the 2 silkie chicks he bought from TSC that he isn't allowed to keep so why NOT bring them over to the chicken crazy relatives? And I have no idea how to integrate the silkies with the original girls after isolating them for a few weeks. I want to go home. I have no time for working.
Right now I don't have my breeds separated. I am working on 3 new coops and pens: 2 4x4 elevated "cooplettes" each in a 10x16 runs for breeding and brooding and one 4x8 pallet coop in a 20x16 run for bantams. If we have time this season we might do a duck house, but that might wait until next year since we have several new gardens to manage this year too. I expect the "3 sisters patch" to be self sustaining, but it is never as easy as you think it will be.

There are 11 duckling! Thank you for letting me know how to sex them with their bills. I'll have my children help me with that, they are to fast to do it by myself! Does anybody have ducks that are free ranged in their yard? I would like to do that, I know it's different between the chickens and the ducks. Getting ducks back in their coop is a lot harder.

Would love to see pictures.

Lisa, I would like a few Orps but don't know where I can put them. Lack of space is becoming a problem. I generally compare them to each other to sex them (i.e. big, large comb. pointy tail feathers= roo (maybe). I'm trying to do that now with the chicks I have. I might have to wait until your next batch hatches. Would like some Lavs too, waiting to hear if Coupe has any more. There really should be a Chickens Anonymous Group, so many suffer from this affliction!

How are your new Silkies? Do you know Tina from the Southern Dutchess Group? She runs a Silkie group on FB. We live close to each other.
