Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

Before you know it, you'll have 13 eggs per day! Good thoughts only! I know that feeling thought. I'm still waiting for the rest to kick in. one a day is not enough!

Good Morning Everybody~ I hope all is well !!! What does it mean when a chicken runs up to another chicken and then they both fluff their feathers and stick their chests out and then walk away? Is that a secret Chicken Club greeting? An "I'm-the-Big Kahuna" thing? Chicken Code for "Psst..Don't lay an egg".....? OH wait'll you guys hear THIS one! I'm fairly certain you'll guess exactly how this story will end...... A couple of months ago we gave DH's co-worker 2 chickens (red sex links from TSC). We had 15 and that was too many for the coop and Jay was interested in raising chickens so they made a deal: 2 chickens In exchange for a nice, big barrel for composting. Anyway, DH just called to tell me that one of (grrrr) Jay's chickens (grrrrr) laid her first egg this morning! I want my chicken back!

So after much observation, it looks like Gertie, the black australorp is the Queen B of the Bunch. She's such a bully! She goes up to several of the others who seem to be more towards the top of the flock and does the fluff and bump thing. Everyone else minds their own business unless I have a handful of blueberries...

Hope all is well with your flock Lexi !

At this point I'd settle for a misshaped rubbery defective egg! But seriously...I know one of those Freeloaders will produce an egg any day now...I'm just being my usual impatient self.

LOL They better lay somethin' very, very soon! I'm going to stop buyin' blueberries....that'll teach 'em!
Hey, I hear those Black Australorps are really productive layers of XL eggs, so you should be in business soon enough. My bet is she will be the first to lay, esp. if she's getting feisty.

All the chickens here are great! the Lav. Orpingtons and the 1 young SL wyandotte are now moved into the big pen with the older wyamdottes! They just learned to go to bed inside the coop, instead of sleeping out in the run. The Hamburg chicks have been in the grow out pen for about a week now, and are loving it! But they still try to sleep next to the coop rather than init!
