Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

he was very healthy we did quarantine him for about 2 weeks then gradually introduced him to the ladies. He was always bey polite with them so it was no issue. I just got a really good intuitive vibe from the woman selling him. I went with my gut. He also let me hold him and examine him right in the parkinglot.

He sounds like a good roo! Pictures pleeeease :) The people we bought the orpingtons from (in upstate CT..a father -daughter duo) were pretty freaky. The "farm" was beyond filthy. The goats were hanging out on muddy, moldy matthresses; the whole place reeked of animal poop..it was terrible. But the chick area was fairly clean so I figured they'd be ok. We kept them in the brooder because they were still little but after a few weeks they'd grown so quickly, we put them outside w/the other girls. Thankfully, they were healthy! They had a dead weasel hanging from a fence in their turkey area. I nudged DH and said WHAT is THAT?!!! He said "Looks like a dead weasel...." I couldn't help it...I HAD to ask the freak why he had a dead weasel hanging from his fence even though I was pretty sure I didn't really want to know his answer. He said it had killed a few turkeys so he'd shot it and it was hanging on the fence because it would give off a scent that warns other weasels to stay away. I said "Oh...ok we should go..." We got our chicks and got the hell outta there. Needless to say, I hope I run into a few normal peeps @ TSC on Saturday!!!

I dont think a weasel would kill a full grown turkey..it would def. Kill a chickens tho! Farmers around here hang dead black birds and crows by the cows feed bins, i guess it keeps the other birds away, so they dont eat the cow feed. Pretty gross if you ask me!

TOTALLY disgustingly gross! lol I think the weasel killed his baby turkeys. He had plenty of full-grown ones although from the looks of that run, he really should have thanked the weasel...those turkeys lived in deplorable conditions. He showed us where his pea fowl lived and we couldn't stand in there for more than a few seconds; the smell was unbearable. ANYWAY....! what's for dinner? lolol
