That works, I basically spill oyster shell into my coop in one section like it is gravel. It happened by accident once and then I just kinda kept doing it. My husband didn't like that I had a little bucket of it in the run because someone kept climbing into the bucket and pooping. So now the spill method just works.
The other girls in my second coop, I keep it ontop of the nesting box. (the nesting box in the townhouse coop is an old nightstand flipped over with the drawer turned upside. So the cavity at the top is filled with oyster/grit mix and they seem pretty happy with it.
Well I am off to the store. We have a wedding in Queens tonight that is Cowboy/country themed and I need to find my five year old a cowboy hat.
