good luck! Do you have any suggestions on how I can stop the Girls from pooping in the nest boxes? I've thrown out several eggs that were way too gross. I clean the boxes out everyday and get a fresh "gift" every morning anyway...this is gettin' OLD

2 in the brooder and 1 in the incubator and 1 egg still not hatched in the bator aswell.
Mama ducks killed 4 fighting over them...I thought daddy duck killed the first 3, so I removed him..1 more hatched and I found it dead acouple hours later with its leg half ripped off...so I took the rest of the eggs inside.4 eggs where bad or had dead ducklings inside and 4 had movement or pips.
They are first time moms, so I cant be mad at them..ill just separate them next time they brood.
As for candy crush, iv never played it lol..but I am addicted to Castle Clash!!
Sorry Lexi. Is it common for ducks (or chickens) to do that?

In all honesty I dont know...I just learned your not suppose to let muscovy hens brood together tho.
Does anyone know of a used car dealer that sells Audi's around here? I need a car...cant keep driving my CUCV around like its a grocery getter!

I don't know. Mine only just started to do this. It has not gotten on the eggs yet, I just clean the poohs out everyday. I think the less time they spend in there the less likely they will pooh. Make sure they are not sleeping in there. quote name="LSzajko" url="/t/746897/hudson-valley-ny-chat-thread/780#post_11936957"]

I dont think you can stop it really..mine poo in the boxes aswell, but not everyday. The only time I worry about dirty eggs is when its rains..then I hav mud all over in the boxes lol

Hey Ladies, I am back from a weekend away. I hope everyone had a nice long weekend. Coupe sorry to hear about your ducklings. No idea about a dealer near you either.

LS...they poop in there all the time? Maybe try moving the boxes if possible...that is so weird. Mine tend to be really clean and once in awhile I get a dirty one or two but its usually as the litter in there gets older. I noticed when I used hay I got dirtier eggs but i switched to fine shavings and haven't had an issue.

So tired so I am off to bed...hope all is well.

Try T and T Auto Sales in Modena. He sells all makes of used cars and usually has a good selection.

Hi Serenity, I don't know you but nice to meet you. It sounds like you have yourself a handful there! I love the babies, they are so much fun. Sorry to hear about your fox troubles, although it seems you worked it all out now. Do you show your silkies?

It's nice to meet you too :)

No, I don't show my silkies.. They're pretty much just pets who happen to lay eggs. And yes, the chicks are beginning to be a handful. I just moved them out to the workshop today. It's nice to get them out of the house! I think there are 26, my son says 27.. I'm not really sure. They move too quickly for me to count them. One of these days I'll take them all out and put them back one at a time so I can count. Really, 26 or 27, what's the difference? Once you get over like 20 it's all the same.

Whoa~ Chicken math at its finest! I lost track lol. Sounds like your son will make his first $million before 3rd grade! And your new coop sounds great. It looked well shaded in the pictures you posted. I guess the horse trailer would get pretty hot even with good ventilation given the fact it's metal

. There's so much to consider! Our chickens are doing well. My husband did convert the goat shelter and we got 4 buff orpingtons and 2 EEs in early July. They're about 13 weeks old right now. One of the orps was killed a couple of weeks ago...a fox, coyote or most likely a cat got her since we've seen a stray around here lately. All that was left of her was a pile of feathers and a piece of what my DH thinks was her neck. The others (I call them The Nuggets) were freaked out for days. They must have witnessed the ambush. In total, we have 17 hens and 1 roo. The original girls just started laying in July. We're getting 7-8 eggs/day from them so far. The roo is a blue orpington. He's a monster (huge not mean). He/She/It isn't crowing yet although I thought I heard him try a few weeks ago but he hasn't made a peep since. Maybe it's a she-male...not sure WHAT's going on with that one! Anyway, it's nice to have you back! I'm glad all is well

Sorry to hear about your fox/coyote/cat attack. We lost chickie (the silkie we hatched back in the spring) and Puppy ( the black silkie) about a month ago. All I found was a few black silkie feathers. There was no sign of chickie. 7-8 eggs per day is pretty good. I'm getting 3 and maybe a silkie egg, which is petty good since I only have 4 laying. The silkie doesn't lay everyday but that's ok. One of my red chickens is laying HUGE eggs..

They don't even fit in a jumbo egg carton. Poor chicken! I better get back to work.. Talk to you soon :)
