Hudson Valley NY *chat thread*

Hi all, I'm not up in Hudson valley I'm in NYC.... I'm looking for a place to get a coop ASAP. A Local rescue that I had chatted with about getting a few hens called me because someone had abandoned 3. So I need a coop ASAP. I was planning on building my own and then getting the chickens, but things didn't work out that way. Any leads would be very much appreciated.

You could try some feed stores near you..they normaly have small coops the you can use for now until you build a good sized one.

Hmmm, if you're in Brooklyn, probably no feed stores nearby, you may have to travel to LI or Jersey to find something. If you can find one of those places that sells those Amish-made sheds, they usually have some nice small chicken coops too, or at least a dog-house or small shed that would work. Google Amish Sheds or storage sheds for your area and see what pops up.

Good morning everyone, hope we have a dry enough day today, I need to get some painting done outside.

Joan, hope you found a source for your processing.

Lexi, how are you're hamburgs doing?

Lisa, keep me posted on your soon-to-be layers.

Have a great day all!

Good morning to you too! No processor for sure yet. And my Amish coop did not arrive yesterday. If the company cannot give me a delivery date by EOD Monday I am cancelling the order and going elsewhere. It has been over a month since we placed the order. The dealer said that the Amish cannot say when they will build/not build/if they built it already/or where it is at the moment if it was built. Sounds like the dealer is out of control.

Since the coop was for my egg chickens it is not too big of a problem. Most of the chickens are in a pasture pen (all the meat chickens). The 6 egg chickens are in a dog pen during the day and the brooder at night. There are 2 more egg chickens (1 week old) in a tub at the moment waiting to move into the brooder when the older egg chickens get into their coop.

Good Morning~

Wow a month is a long time to wait. Is it being custom built? I hope you get a delivery date soon!

It's another hot one out there. I've been up since 6:30...feels like it should be mid-afternoon. Just came in from tending the garden. Why do the weeds grow faster than everything else? Everything seems so sluggish this year. At the rate things are going, I may have tomatoes by Halloween...sheesh...

Yes, not a good year for a lot of garden veggies, too much rain, great for weeds as you say!

Joan, I forget where you are located, but there is an Amish shed dealer on Rt 28 just west of the Kingston traffic circle called Brad's Barns, and they have at least 3 or 4 chicken coops sitting on their lot that I can see from the road, there may be even more further back behind all of the sheds they have on the lot, they have a lot of stock sitting right there.
