Sounds like you're in for some cool surprises once the babies feather out. Fun! What breeds of chickens and ducks do you have? Just a hint...we love duck, chicken and coop pictures around here! It's great that you have a chicken guru. Between BYC and your chicken guy, you'll have plenty of good support. We went into this chicken thing totally clueless but so far so good. We bought 6 more Friday...4 buff orpingtons and 2 easter eggers. They're 9 weeks old. My DH repurposed our old goat house into a coop for the new babies. Now we have 2 coops and 19 chickens. Now I know what they mean when they refer to chicken math. I was unsure for awhile but I think we definitely have a rooster. I was leaving for work at 5:30 this morning and heard some alarming sounds coming from the coop so I went to investigate. I thought for sure there was an overnight attack and somebody was dying. Then I realized it must have been Mr. Blue the Roo's pathetic attempt at crowing. TOO funny! Re: the chandelier...looks like I have to add another project to my DH's Honey Do List! Yikes~

Sorry Diane :-( I'm having trouble finding chickens too. We had goats but DH re-homed them. We put their coop/hut/barn/whatever up for sale. We had someone interested but he never showed up to pick it up so my DH modified it. It is now a 2nd chicken coop! Painting it this weekend. Anyway, we decided to put the two outcast Orpingtons in it and called around to several people we found on Craigslist. One woman had a bunch of Orps she wanted to sell so I made arrangements to pick them up yesterday. About an hour after I called her, she called me to say somebody came and bought ALL of them. We made a few other phone calls and left messages but haven't heard back from anyone yet and I doubt we will. Didn't realize how popular chickens are!! Good luck in your search. How are your chickens doing?
I found nothing. :-( I'm down to one hen because two couldn't handle the heat we had. I'm heading to stony point on weds so hopefully can find some there.

One of the HV Chicken Pimps from Craigslist called us back late this afternoon. We met him in Chester. We got 4 Buff Orpingtons and 2 Easter Eggers. I think they're 9 weeks old. $7/each. They're downright petrified and very stinkin' cute! Chicken Louie's phone # is 845-888-0274. He's a little 'interesting' but the chicks seem very healthy~no mites and their poop looks good

He also has show rabbits and meat rabbits for sale.

Yep, Chicken Louie always posts on Craigslist. He has rabbits, chickens, meat birds and a vegetable stand. He showed us pictures! He's ummm...an interesting character! I'd also called Randy from POK but he didn't have any Orps. When Louie called I asked him if he was Randy thinking Randy called forgetting that I'd already spoken to him (I made so many phone calls I lost track of WHO I called!) Louie said "Ohhh No!! I'm not Randy but I know Randy..when he was first getting into the chicken business he called me constantly and now he thinks he's the Hudson Valley Chicken King!!" I definitely sensed a little rivalry on Louie's end! It was a busy weekend. A friend and I went blueberry picking Saturday at Secor Farm in Wappingers Falls. I made some jam and a blueberry crisp, cleaned the house, laundry blah blah blah..the usual weekend drudgery lol. How was your weekend? How's that adorable flock of yours doing?

I think Wurtsboro is in Sullivan County. When I spoke to him Friday morning, Louie said he'd be on the road most of the day so he brought the chickens we wanted with him and met us in Goshen. What kind of chickens are you looking for? Have you checked with anybody on the Southern NY thread? A lot of people from Long Island, Westchester and Dutchess County there. They may have good chicken sources. So sorry about the chicken you lost :-( That heat was brutal.

Hi All, Busy week here. How is everyone doing? I LOVE this weather, if we could keep this cool summer weather all year I would be so happy. I moved the chicks outside :), I had a possible mama for them that had been broody but she pecked/ chased and I took them away. So now they are happy outside. I am looking for more hatching eggs. I have a 'want' list but I just was thinking local maybe...anyone have anything?

Babies in their new house. Mama has been removed.
