I know nothing about ducks, but the ducks and geese at our local park do a continuous swim in this kind of weather. I think the motion keeps them from freezing.

Sorry to hear Coupe.  Maybe there is a solution on the duck threads?  I am worried about the chickens but other then being a bit more quiet and two + deciding they will now start missing the automatic closing during the worst weather they seem to be ok.

I believe I know you from another forum.  Nice dogs in your avatar.

I have searched and searched the duck threads..they all say the same thing pretty much..keep them out of the water and put hay down, so they are not walking on snow. And alot of people say they dont have problems with muscovie!
What forum would that be?

I had to bring in one of the young ones again because it desided to splash water all over itself! The poor thing was covered in ice!
Maybe ducks are not for me...iv had my one Drake for while now with no problems! The other ones just seem kinda um....dumb...

Thank goodness we made it to a reprieve. Definitely will be duck weather today until the freeze is back again on Tuesday. The chickens all did well through all the cold. Thankful for all the good chicken advice on this forum.

How are your ducks doing today? The weather is so much warmer. You are making think twice before buying duckling in the spring.

This weather definitely complicates the whole chicken-keeping gig in a big way doesn't it?

Received a Barnes & Noble gift card for Christmas and downloaded a couple of nook books. Just finished Chickens in the Road by Suzanne McMinn. Cute book. Getting ready to read Lisa Steele's book Fresh Eggs Daily. Their blogs/websites aren't as informative as BYC but they have some cool things...recipes, canning info, crafts, etc.
I've been on vacation since Dec. 20th. Back to work tomorrow

Only 141 +/- days till Spring. Hang in there !

The ducks are doing better today! Everyone seems to be happy! The chickens are doing great with the cold weather and I havnt had a problem with them.
I cant wait till spring!

Its is warm out! All my lovely snow is gone lol and man! Did it rain out hard this morning!!but my chickens are enjoying some freedom right now..I havnt let them out of the pen in acouple days. Tonight it going to be so cold!
