From the beginning. You already cleaned with peroxide to get debris out of her wound, I would not use it again, unless she gets feathers or gunk in it. Sounds like you have it all under control. The only thing I would add is a once a day blue kote spray and stay away from a greasy ointment because it messes up feathers. Is she on an antibiotic? If not at this point I would watch the wound carefully like you are doing, and make sure that the wound is healing from the inside out. Any red around it and I'd get her on an antibiotic and get the scab off to drain it. Cathryn MI

She is not on an antibiotic from a vet. I will buy whatever she needs, what antibiotic would you recommend? I will take an updated picture, so you may access better, if you have the time

Do you have to buy antibiotics from a vet? You can't go to your farm store or on line and get what you want? Unless she gets infection I would not use an antibiotic. If you have time, take more pictures. I am on my way outside to feed and water and will check back when I am done. Cathryn MI

Ellisa- you would on need to have her "on" (dosing internally via oral or injection) an antibiotic if there is internal infection. If her wound keeps smelling and looking clean with healing progressing you are doing great with the topical neosprin (itself containing antibiotics) and vetericyn.

The latest development on the wound is on the bottom towards the middle is missing old skin with feathers, not sure what was...she must have done it or it fell off itself.

I'm pretty sure that scabby feathery bit in the old photo needed to come off, I wouldn't be worried about that. I think the wound is looking really healthy, it's not inflamed and looks clean. Due to a chunk of the skin being completely missing it will take a long time to heal but it looks as though it will get there. I would continue doing whatever you have been doing as it's working

I have had hens with wounds similar to this and only used topical antibiotic. That piece of skin/feathers that fell off was most likely not being perfused, and was basically dead tissue.
The skin will eventually fill in around the edges. I have seen posts in the past of people who put in some stitches to try to pull the skin together so not such a big area needs to fill in. but that is something I have never done.

Thank you, how long did it take to heal, for your chickens? Wow, is there enough to pull, to even bring this together? I would need someone else to do that for me, I admire people that are able to do that!
