Huge bump/knot, veins, wasn't there earlier

I agree, letting it dry out and get nasty made no sense and that's why I asked here! I know I'm still a newbie with loads to learn about chickens. This little chic thou? She's a special one! I'm trying to find her a friend her age or younger (she's a week old) so my question is now becomes this - let's say tomorrow I find someone with great references or certifiactions do I still need to keep separated for a month? I know she can't go into my mixed flock alone, down the road when she's bigger and healed but can I safely give/get her a friend now? Is it even possible? And many thanks to all of you each and every time I come here freaking out and you help me help the girls
There's always a risk of introducing some type of illness, you just never know.
That said, if you find some chicks, then I think I would probably get them and put them with your lone chick. It is a little easier to integrate more than one chick into a flock.

Yeah, I’d just go for it. They’ll fight less the sooner you do it, and the chances of hatchery chicks having some disease they’re going to spread to yours is pretty low I’d imagine.
