Huge egg, 1 chick...did it absorb 2 yolks??

The belly has that green tint too, which usually means bacterial infection, so I have to agree with the others.

Yes! The bellies always have a green tint! Living or dead! Every egg from this breeder is in this condition, but I was under the impression it was more harmful to cleanse the shell before incubating. What do y’all suggest using to clean them with? This whole time I’ve been blaming humidity and temp or shipping...when it’s probably been bacterial!

Thanks for all of the input!

Lots of opinions on cleaning eggs. Do a search here and find what you are comfortable with (I think someone even linked some articles above)

Personally, if I incubate any slightly soiled eggs of mine, I only wipe with a sponge, wetted with hot hot water and squeezed out to just damp. Then dry with a paper towel. I try to only wipe the dirtiest areas, not totally scrubbing the entire egg. This has worked for me, but you may need to experiment with different cleansing methods.

Also, there’s a difference in my mind whether it’s just dirt/mud from a hens feet, or whether the egg appears to have laid in poop, etc. A little dirt from a foot doesn’t bother me. Poopy deposits on eggs do bother me. :D
