Huge Leg Growths - Updated pics

I would treat the other birds as well.

Tractor Supply has Ivomec. Remember, that you should not eat their eggs for 2 weeks after giving it. Also, a second dose is recommended about 10-14 days after the 1st.

Ivomec also takes care of variety of other parasites e.g. Coccidia if I am not mistaken.

I think it might just be a big accumulation of scales. Try moisturizing his legs with vaseline and any other item you can think of. I bet they will pop off.

They're hard as rocks. =/ I tried manipulating them after the pictures were taken, and he was LESS than thrilled about it.

I'll have to make a run to TSC in the AM. Ivermectin can be given orally, then? I'll treat all the birds, which is 13. That'd be a lot of needles.

Treat them all with ivermectin in the water, two birds with one stone as they say, as it will worm them as well

You need to apply either tea tree oil or whatever you choose everyday to start to soften them up. You will then be able to gently remove the build up but slowly does it, can get very sore. Its taken along time to get that bad.

Even though he may never get back to 100% normal he will not get any worse now. Chickens can lose toes and even their feet from scaly leg mites so he is lucky you have taken him on.

Well, he's missing the tip of one toe, you can see in the one picture.

I happen to have a good sized bottle of tea tree oil here at the house for my own rough heels, LOL. I'll just divide it and use half for him.

He really is a very gentle roo. We don't really have any space in our flock for another roo, but hopefully I can get him well and maybe rehome him or something.

Thanks-
Em

You need to use Ivomec Eprinex. I love this stuff. You just put it on their skin and it takes care of everything but Tape worms. 1/4 cc for Bantams 1/2 cc for Standard Chickens and repeat in 10 days. You might want to soak his legs in warm water to loosen the scales. I use a sulfer salve mixed with Vaseline. I warm the Vaseline untill it melts then paint it on their legs with a paint brush. That way it gets into all the cracks and creveces. Hope this helps...Gloria

Edited to include this.
You could mix the Tea tree oil with the vaseline.

I am new to chickens but I seen this once only it was way worse. The legs where so bad you could only see the nails on the toes. I asked her what on earth happened to those chickens legs. She looked shrugged and said that it was scaley mites. I said isn't that contagious she said no if it really bothered someone they could put the legs in kerosene. I left as fast as I could, after expressing my opinion of her and how she treated her birds.

I should of known when I walked up to the house and the door was open and chickens where everywhere in the house, at first I thought what a nice coop. Then I realised that the people lived in that house. It was nasty. Needless to say I bought nothing from that lady.

I even burned my shoes and clothes I wore there. As well as the car mat on the floor of the car.
