I just finished my coop and the nest is 8 feet long running the length of the coop. I was originally going to break this up into 4 nesting boxes but ran out of material. Can I just leave this as one large nest box or should I use chicken wire to divide them up. I'm finding all my girls like to snuggle together in a corner of the nest box and wondering if it has to do with the size of the box.

Quote:You should make little individual nest boxes. Hens like their privacy while laying eggs. How many hens do you have? You can figure 4 birds per nest box when dividing it up, you may not need the entire length of the coop and can open up some more floor space if you like.
It is generally true that regardless of the number of nest boxes you have, they will pick their favorites (and fight over it!). They're funny like that!
