humidity 40% on day 0 -1 day 2 humidity 48%

I've read on the forums that 40% is best from chicken eggs and not to use 50% to 60%, as the chicks would drown in water in the egg shell when it goes to hatch and which has happen to my last two hatches. I on day 2 now, I've add some water to keep it at 40%, it went up to 45% than some hour later it droped back down to 40%. I've just check the humidity to night and it is up to 48% humanity.

How did it get to 48%, I've haven't added any more water yet to my egg incubator ?

My egg incubator has a fan.

Do I need to get the humidity back down to 40% ?

Personally I prefer 30-35% anything over 45% for standard eggs makes me nervous. Outside humidity will affect incubator humidity. If it comes back down within 24 hours, I'd remove water. Best way to tell if your humidity is working for your eggs is to monitor air cells.

I have no water in my egg incubator and the humanity is at 47%.

The eggs is in the coldest part of my Mum's house under the stairs next to the kitchen.

Does any know how to bring down the humidity on egg incubator that do not has water in ?

Are you by any chance using the Little giant digital incubator?
Have you ever checked the accuracy of your hygrometer? What is the room humidity?

No I haven't checked the accuracy of my hygrometer.

I don't own a tool that can read the room's humidity and temp.

My nephew had one of those. The displays aren't always accurate, and if you haven't checked it or have an independent hygrometer, I would start there.
And check the air cells of your eggs. If the hygrometer hasn't been checked and is significantly off, and the air cells are growing good, you could over compensate. If your relative humidity is high, then it's very possible dry could have that result, but if not it's doubtful. If it truly is that high and you want to lower it, then you can try dry rice, unpopped pop corn, silica packs or charcoal/carbon room humidity stuff. (Yes, I know someone who has used it with no ill effects to chicks.)

Well my chicken eggs are late hatching by 4 days (24 days) but they've started to pip today, so I very happy now
