humidity wont stay up

Has the hygrometer been tested for accuracy ?

This is how it is done:

Take a cup and put 1/2 cup of salt and just enough water to make a thinck paste. Put the cup in a zip lock baggie and lay the hygrometer next to it. Zip it up and keep in a room around 70 degrees for 12 hours. If it is accurite it

If it is not accurite it's ok because now you know how far off it is in either direction and can accomidate for that. You will probably want to do this before your next hatch as at this point you can't afford to take it out. I would buy a second one and compare them right now.

I wouldn't take anything out at this point. I would leave it and go to the store in the morning to buy another hygrometer. I always have two (different ones) in my bator at all times to check against each other. You can get a fairly cheap on at Wal-Mart or Home Depot for like $7 or $8 if you have one of those stores there in Aussie land.

What did the air cells look like when you candled ? I would not worry about it at 52. It really should be fine but it wouldn't hurt to have another to compare it to.

I am nuts as I have 3 in my bator at once !

Mine is at 56 right now and I will not add more water untill it goes below 45.

it does go up to 70% when i mist too much water then i have to have the lid open to let some of it out so i think the hydrometere is ok its a reptile 1 that i have calibrated twice. i took out a sponge and the dring bottle cup thing from a tuppaware drink bottle so i think it should be ok and i dont have walmart here in australia the cheapest hydrometer i can find in 30 dollarsAUS

i think the air cell are where they are ment to be

You lose humidity by opening the bator. It is best to find a way to not open it until the hatch is finished.
