Ok,
I have a RIR rooster, and one hen is a cross of a Barred Rock and a Turken (It looks just like a Barred Rock with a smooth neck) Anyways, I was told even though it was a cross, it would produce Black sex link chicks since the hen was Barred. Well, so far I have hatch two solid black chicks (no white dots on head or anywhere. One is a smooth neck). The third chick is a smooth neck but is RED like the other RIR I just hatch......... I have sold these eggs as well and they have never got a chick like this. Any suggestions.

Well- if they were sex-links- you'd expect solid black chicks. Those are the females. The red one is probably a female too. The mom, being a cross, may have thrown a white gene in there.

Maybe I'm wrong- there are definately better genetics people out there than me.

*** If the mom was a sex-link herself, the chicks would NOT be sex-linked.

Probably the mother has one copy of E-ext. black and one copy (e).She will produce 50% black and 50%(e) babies.Because she is silver she will stil make Sex Links with RIR-golden girls and silver boys when (e).When E girls will be pure black and boys will have white dot on head. All boys (e) or E will be Barred.

From this mating you will get Black Barred & Gold Barred cockerels, Black & Red Columbian pullets.

As the mother is barred, all non barred offspring of either black or red, will be female. Male offspring will usually hatch with a white headspot though I don't know how well this would show on the red birds.
