You mention several Savage rifles. Have you shot the Savage "Accutrigger?" I have a varmint rifle in a .223 with the Accutrigger. MAN!! That thing is so nice and so smooth, it will really spoil you!
Both are accutrigger models. Wish they'd make an aftermarket for the Mauser 98 and other rifles, but then I guess they'd lose one of the things that gives their rifles a sales edge. Haven't tweaked the trigger pull on either yet. Just acquired the '06 and my wife is comfortable with the heavier pull being a less experienced shooter. Savage rifles are not pretty or fancy, but in my opinion they are among the most accurate non-custom rifles available today. In fact, with the right load they will run with many of the custom jobs. A great value. Their trick is that ugly, patented barrel nut that greatly decreases production cost over traditional barrel mounting and improves barrel to receiver fit at the same time.
I also like to tote Grandpa's old model 99 .300 sav once in awhile for old times sake.
