I like to pot a few bushytails to warm up for deer hunting. I use a Norinco JW15 (identical to a CZ 452 and the basic action the Chicom olympic team fields.. I think the commies shared rifle designs) set up with a 6X scope and Lapua silhouette ammo. Scary accurate rimfire rig in the woods or on the silhouette course. I've picked 'em out of tall trees over 100 yards. Great practice for funky position shooting at bigger game. If you can eyeball a squirrel leaning out 30 degrees and crouching to shoot under a limb offhand, that quartering shot on a whitetail behind you is no problem. I also take a few and the occasional bunny or pheasant with the Ruger mark 3 while running traps.
We have fox squirrels up here. Kinda the difference between eating a cornish game hen and a full blown broiler. If there's foxies around, I'll pass on the greys. Delicious with onions, carrots, celery and squash on a bed of wild rice.
