hunting

My husband has been going on the weekends. He's seen some does, but not big enough. He's heading up tonight for a few days. Hopefully he gets a couple. We want to keep one and donate one to the food bank. We've donated one so far, but we donate a few each year. Unfortunately, I won't make it back up to hunt until gun season.

Our turkey season opened this past weekend, but we got skunked. Went up to find that the properties we've been hunting for decades are leased out now, and the other property had been timbered. Gah!

Our deer 'regular' season doesn't open for nearly another month.

Went out and tied my deer to a tree this weekend. Set up some ground blinds (never did like tree stands... brrrr). Good deer sign, no people sign on my secret public land spots. Busted some deer, one nice buck. Good rubs and some starter scrapes. Found a new funnel through a deep draw between some hills and set up a sitting stump there. Even got a couple of grouse and lost my cell phone in the process.

Rifles are zeroed and ready to go, got to practice on runners rolling an old tire down a gravel pit hill. Hit it 5/5 at 100 yards.

my husband hunts Bow for a month, then black powder for 2 weeks, then Rifle for 2 weeks, then black powder for 2 weeks, then Bow for a month. October to like March. We also have friends that only want the back strap so we get all the other meat form them. I donate to people I know and the food program here so none goes to waste.
