I have been through countless Blizzards and a couple Hurricanes...... I will take a Blizzard anyday. Only thing you have to make sure of is warmth and shovel off the roof so it doesn't collapse (people forget that).

Hope you are able to sleep !

@Ursuline Chick What is the name of Hand Crank Radio do you have ? I need to get one before Winter comes this year.
Energizer. LOL, Also has AM/Fm/weather band on it. Think DH got it at a big box store years ago. Good luck, hope you find a good one.

Silly little tip, but if you place a bowl of ice cubes in your freezer and lost power, you will know if your food defrosted and refroze if there is either ice cubes or frozen water in your bowl when you do finally open your freezer once power is restored.
Excellent tip, thanks for that, i sure hope every one, animals included in the path of that storm stays safe, prayers do work..!!so lets every one prayers & positive energy going out to all in the path of that storm..!!!

Not in Texas, I don't think. They are down in the swampland in Florida.
Yeah, Texas has gators, mostly in SE Texas but also on Matagorta Island. Every so often 1 will turn up in San Antonio or Dallas. Pets, that someone turned loose. I had one as a kid but my mom made me give it away. My grandfather gave it to me for a birthday gift. :lauthought that it would be something I couldn't tear up.

We had a foot long baby as kids, until we went on vacation and one of my Daddy's employees had to feed him while we were away. We fed him on the end of a pencil, well this tough guy decided he didn't need the pencil and could feed the gator off his finger. As I am sure you have figured out, it bit the sh*t out of his finger and my Mom made us give the gator away.

Not to nit-pick here, but my chickens do not float, the ducks do but not my chickens.

Well mine did when i tried to cool them off during hot weather. I put them in a big mud tub of water.

I wonder if the water having alot of soap in it because the birds were getting gussied up for a show might have something to do with the floatablity of the birds in question?
Just a thought crossing what's left of my mind.

Been online helping our guests fill out government forms to help speed up the recovery process, once that starts. You can do this even before you have damage assessments, and it gets you a "place in line" earlier.

Also SNAP ebt (food stamps equivalent for Texas) can be applied for and now can be used for HOT foods and food to be consumed on premises, though there is a cutoff on it for Sept 5, this will likely be extended. ETA: extended to Sept 30. This is an emergency change they made for folks in the Gulf area only. Info on it will be on your online SNAP account page.

Luckily, north Texas shelters just had very successful "Clear the Shelter" events and had room and supplies to take in animals from many coastal animal shelters and rescues. Most shelters evacuated them early, thank goodness! They will be needing plenty of donations of cash, pet food, pet bowls, crates, towels and blankets, toys. Please don't forget the pets.

Dallas has three shelters and is opening one mega-shelter this week to open up something like 8000 beds for coastal evacuees. More smaller shelters are open/opening across the DFW metroplex. We welcome coastal Texans and we WILL take care of you! You will be safe here. We consider you family.

I've had neighbors bringing food to the house this morning, after hearing and seeing we had coastal friends sheltering here. I love my neighbors! One even brought toys and books for the kids and toiletries, and TP in bulk!

Kiki, rest when you can. This isn't over by a long shot. But it isn't anything you can't handle. You've got plenty of help. You've got folks just biding their time till they can swoop in to set things right. Be safe, and take care of those kiddos. The rest will work itself out.
