Excellent Idea!!!Also make sure you have a good supply of clean water. People think I'm crazy but every time I empty a milk jug, I clean it, fill it with water and put it in the barn.

Love this story, Thank you, really great story.I had told the DH that we would probably be safer in the chicken coop. Of course, prior to the storm, we had no clue. At the time, no TV, no form of communications, didn't know much of anyone, blah blah.
As it was, our mobile home was almost the only "house" in our area that did not substain any major damage (yes, lucky I know). I guess the trees provided some protection since we were in the middle of them. With no basement, no place to "run" to, it was our only option. Not even cars would have been any safer.
Whereas, the neighbor's brick homes were pretty much shredded.
The only thing we lost was an Argentina scorpion I was "babysitting" for one of my sons. When the power went out, there was no way to keep him warm. The chickens were fine and never stopped laying eggs.
We did gain an awful lot of wildlife (besides the gators) from thousands of insects including mosquitos, spiders (the huge yellow and black ones to black widows), white scorpions, snakes, armadillos (I had one in the house as a pet. His name was Drop Dead Fredd) to the deer, the neighbors cows and wild boars.
I walked around with a bat for days.
Another great post, almost wish I had stayed home this weekend, I missed so much.I guess if your power goes out, you have all the makings for milkshakes.
Stay safe, ditto on TP and food AND WATER. You can miss a few meals, but water is of the utmost importance.
I stock up on gallons of water and run more for the birds, ferrets, and the cat even if the forecast is just for severe thunderstorms. If our power goes out, the well pump doesn't run either. .....but I do have an old old outhouse if it became necessary #justsaying! Hmmm....I guess I might find a use for all that junk mail, too.

Thank you Silkie nerd, this is what I ment when I posted that our nation is mainly made up of good, caring people. Hang tough Texas, we are with you.I will pray for y'all I am going to try to raise a fundraiser for all of you in texas!
Just returned from the home of a friend of 30 years in Pensacola, so all of Florida in on the prayer list. She and her family will come here if this Irma thing comes her way. (We do that too, Wink) if it come to Nola, we go back to Pensacola! LOLI just got that too. My sister is outside of Miami, and while her family can evacuate, She can't... Essential Personnel. Really worried.
Yes, a lot of that was suburban, or what we call here "new" houses. LOLThanks, that's interesting. I just remember seeing videos on the tv news and noticing the flat houses. Obviously they would have been the most severely affected areas.
