Morning all! Hope everyone had a good holiday! In typical nurse fashion...I worked both days. Surprisingly Thursday at 7 a.m. had more traffic than Friday...despite all malls and shopping centers opening at 5 a.m. My office mate's daughters apparently were camping out starting at 2 a.m. waiting. Nuts. :idunnoI do most of my shopping on line. I worked in the mall and for Hallmark all through HS and college....20+ years later I still have PTSD from the mall at Christmas.
Saturday was house cleaning and deciding with Chef what we are doing to the outside for Christmas (I was watching to see how many of my neighbors put Christmas stuff out already...only one surprisingly!). We'll do ours all next weekend...got big light plans.
Today is cleaning up chickens and outside in prep of Christmas decorations. Gotta rake leaves...I mentioned before I HATE raking leaves. :barnie

Put those leaves in bags and set them somewhere dry. Then toss a few bags of leaves on the hen house floor or in their run. Sprinkle on a cup of scratch...birds will be happy scratching thru the leave and will shred them for your garden in the spring.

I think Santa needs to bring you a powerful leaf blower this year.

That's because hurricane season is basicly over. Do you have any hurricane questions you would like answered, cause we would be glad to answer them in prepration for next season?

Hope all had a great thanksgiving yesterday. Today I picked up some leftovers from Mom's and came home in time to see a hugh possum in the empty lot next to my house headed toward the fence where my chickens live. DD came out to help bring in leftovers in time to see the possum look at us and turn around, walk across the lot and duck under the neighbor's fence. Keep checking, but he has not come back yet. DH will have to set the trap when he gets home tonight. hopefully we will get him. He is hugh!! :th

ETA: There is a lot of good hurricane info in the previous 800 pages. Hope that helps!

Yuck! I hate possums! I think I have one getting into my chicken tractor in the late afternoon, early evening. The chickens go to roost in the other coop and in the rafters of the barn, so something is getting the eggs then. They are usually all broken and some of the yolks eaten, but not all. It's a real mess. The eggs in the big coop aren't touched. I can't collect until around 10 or so in the evening on the days I work late. I do try to collect as many as I can before leaving, but it's not always possible if there are several hens in line to lay :-). If I get them early enough, I don't usually have the problem. DH says he's going to put our game camera out there to see what's doing it and plan accordingly. This means deciding which weapon he's going to use to dispatch the thief :-).

Back at work today after eating too much this weekend!

Back from shopping, after dark. I do worry about hitting a deer , there are lots around here. I did see one in the ditch but made it back safely. Virginia has more cars hit deer than any other state!
I found one on the roadside in front of our house earlier this year. It was a doe, obviously hit by something traveling pretty fast. I had to call around, but finally got the folks that our county contracts with to pick up the roadkill. I've narrowly missed others driving home from work at night. They are also on our property, and often in our driveway when I come home.

Right now, all but one fawn are pretty scarce as they know it's hunting season, but once it's over they'll be in the driveway, the front yard and basically everywhere. I'm a little concerned about the fawn as he's been sleeping inside the fenced back yard. I haven't seen mom since doe season started. I guess he know's he's safe around here.
