I have cried for several days. At 13.5 years Gracie was overcome by her health issues and her quality of life just plummeted. Had to put my sidekick to sleep. Difficult decisions are sometimes necessary. We miss her, but are comforted by sweet memories and the knowledge she no longer suffers.


Rutting season makes bucks even more unpredictable!


Was at Yellowstone a few years ago and nearly had a heart attack when a Japanese family positioned their two small children between a momma elk and her baby and were taking flash photos! Momma started snorting and pawing the ground. Fortunately her calf moved towards mom and they left before momma elk stomped those children.

@NanaKat, so sorry to hear your news, thoughts and prayers sending your way. Cry all you want, it's always hard to have to lose a family member. Just know you did the right thing.

So sorry for your loss. I've had to put a few of my best friends down too. The way I look at it, it's the last act of kindness we can do for our friend who is suffering. We can help them have a dignified and relatively pain free end of life. My last two that I have lost just died of natural causes. I came home and found them in the backyard dead. They were fine when I left for work, but passed while out in the yard. They would sleep a lot since they were old. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm getting a box ready to go too...the solar bulbs finally got here. And I have the mosquito bracelets too.

I'm so very sorry for your loss We lost our 12 year old Siberian husky early this year. It's very hard to handle. They are so much a part of the family. Our almost 14 year old terrier mix is starting to really sow his age now too. I'm hoping you find comfort in knowing that Gracie is no longer suffering.

I do love this thread, that we can share so much here, good and hard things and find support! It's so wonderful to belong in such a caring place. Prayers for @KikisGirls and family. Hope they are doing okay, beginning to worry, although I know she must be very busy.

Busy time of year made more hectic when your children are sick!
We had to put our sweet Gracie down...so it has been a tearful past week. Hubby suggested Red needed a new companion and has encouraged me to find an older puppy to adopt. May take my time.
