if you come along US36 East of Urbana and see all the antenna towers, that'd be yankee hill. i'm in between urbana/mutual/mechanicsburg. evidently most of the 'burg had no power and there are trees down everywhere. i stayed home today waiting on the RECC who never came. they said maybe tomorrow.

sorry to hear about your tree.

that stinks. it seems that whenever i get a tree that's doing good and about to really hit it's prime a deer barks it, the wind blows it over, etc etc etc.

moral of the story.... OHChick can't grow squat.

We got to deal with lots of chaos with the remnants of Ike in my part of the state, too. DH and I were out with our fire department was out most of Sunday night cutting trees off power lines and roadways and checking on shorting/sparking wires and transformers. Pretty much every fire department in our county was busy. I felt bad for the dispatcher... it would be tough trying to keep track of everything! Many in our area are still without power. We did finally get power back at my house late last night. I think we're going to be purchasing a generator, though. That storm showed us how unprepared we were... we have a freezer full of homegrown beef and pork that we were afraid we were going to lose! The storm did rip some of the siding off of our coop and ripped a bedrail cover right off of my truck!

I was thinking the same thing, too. It was crazy enough with our windstorm... I can't imagine actually having a hurricane! My heart goes out to all of those who have been through all of these hurricanes this fall.

edited to add some details I forgot yesterday

Yes - thank goodness you are all ok! I can't imagine what you have gone through. Obviously we had nothing compared to you and I hope that they get the power restored soon.

We just got our power back on late last night from about 4 pm on Sunday. We lost everything in the fridge and freezer. My parents still have a live wire down in their yard with a huge maple on it. At lot of the people here are still without power. The closest town to us are being told that it may still be another week to get them all back on. We didn't really get any rain until after the wind came thru and then it wasn't very much. Hope that everyone is getting their stuff back together and are safe.

The Columbus area is a mess. That was really scary and the damage is so widespread. We just lost a few large branches, but no real damage to the house or coop. Never seen anything like that. My kids finally went back to school today. For some miracle, my road did not lose power. I need to venture out to the store, but I think Ill hold off a couple more days because I don't know which areas are up and running. I hate the thought of traffic lights not working.
I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but I hope everyone is OK.

Hi all, I'm glad everyone is okay. We didn't have any serious damage, thank goodness, just lots and lots of limbs and a gazillion hickory nuts in the yard. The last time I saw first hand damage like what Ike caused was in '92 in Hurricane Andrew. We lived in Baton Rouge then and it was bad enough there that I said I never wanted to be in one again, and whaddya know, we had stronger sustained winds here than Andrew! I thought I was safe in Ohio! Ha!

Our power was only off for 12 hours (one of the benefits of living 3 miles away from Honda), but our ISP was down until a half hour ago. Our son, DIL and 2 grandkids who live in Springfield had to come stay with us last night until their power is restored. They have a well and finally gave up trying to deal with a 2-year-old and a 2-month-old without water. I've been trying to cook up some of the food that was in their fridges and freezer. You might know they had just bought groceries on Saturday before the storm.
