Husband was laid off.... again.

there is no such thing as a "safe" job any more. Sad.

My husband was laid off twice within a year back in 2000/01 First time was right before Christmas. Second time was a month after 9/11

But then again I see so many city employees that do nothing and should have their jobs eliminated.
In my city we no longer have a certified library, due to severe budget cuts. But we DO have a animal control officer that has no backing or support from the city. IE there are NO Laws on the books to have her enforce. So she drives around all day long in a city owned vehicle putting gas in it and getting a check. They should get rid of that job and pay another police officer with that money.
Or pay the contracted plow drivers. Or have the city side walk plow make it to all the sidewalks so the kids that no longer have busing arent walking to and from school in the streets.

sorry.. rant over

We have both been laid off, off and on for the last few months. Each time one of us gets laid off, its longer then the time before. We havent gotten any unemployment for almost a month, the system is far behind and so messed up. We just got some unemployment 2 days ago, cant wait to get the rest that is owed, cause the bills are pileing up...........

unemployment isnt enough either. It barely paid for food and one car payment when my dh was out of work. I had my job at Harvard and was paying the mortgage, electric, car payment etc and THAT was tight.

DH has worked for the same company for 19 years. Now, the company looks like it is looking to push to have a temporary shut down....

Who'd have ever thought we'd see they day when OIL companies are looking to shut down refineries!! But, yep they are!

My bro got laid off in PA and boy would I love their unemployment. MO is one of the lowest paying states for unemployement.

I'm so sorry for everyone going through this. At least I can say I'm still employed, hopefully next year I'll STILL be employed! I'm shopping around to other districts just in case, there are several states with teacher shortages because no one wants to teach in cold states like N.D, S.D., A.K. But with other big districts laying off they will soon have plenty of applicants.
You are in my prayers!!

We own a family business. We are hurting too. People are not paying their bills.

Exactly the problem hubby and I are having.

The economy can only go up right?

Uhhh..wrong

Try to keep your chin up. I know it's very hard.

My employer of the last 7+ yrs told me 2 wks ago he believes he will be shutting the business down for good. My timeline is another 2-3 weeks.
My job before this one closed because of the economy. Best I can do is have a good cry, eat some carbs and pick myself up and try all over again.

Most of my friends have lost their jobs in the last two months... the biggest employer in town let several hundred folks go since Thanksgiving. We're in a very impoverished area to begin with and it isn't likely to get better very soon.

It's scary out there and I am really petrified... I'm not as young or healthy as I use to be..lol. I have 4 teenagers who are going to get another lesson in doing without.

Best wishes !!!!!!!!!!

Julie

My Hubby is still layed off, he is expecting to go back in a week or so. He has been layed off since Nov. We have only gotten 1 full unemployment check, now this last one is messed up due to the mill telling the unemployment office that they were returning to work before they had. The Kentucky unemployment office has had a hard time keeping up with everything. Over 40,000 people in one month were layed off. They were simply not equipped to handle so many claims at one time, but I feel they have done a good job catching up to the demand. I think it is good to go through tough times, not that it is a good thing, but I think it makes people realize how good we do have it and it can always be worse, but we will always be alright. My grandparents made it through the depression and it made them stronger. We will all learn from this. I know I have and I believe my husband has learned a thing or two. I wish the best for everyone.

They were talking on NPR about the unemployment rate and how it may not accurately reflect the TRUE unemployment rate. Think about all the people who owned businesses or were working from home on contracts who now have no contracts AND can't get any unemployment!

I work for myself. Luckily, I have my hand in several pots and am trying to do several things at once to keep afloat.

Hubby is a contract worker and has already been told he will likely be laid off in April.

I'm sorry. Hope all will get better.
