Husband was laid off.... again.

I'm sorry. We're there right now, too. Four kids with one on the way and DH got laid off six weeks ago. Supposedly temporarily, but he goes in every week and they still don't have work so he gets sent home.

It's so scary right now.

12 job openings in this county and 6-700 people applying for them.

I thank goodness every day for my job (though I generally only work 1 day a week), but I'll have to go on maternity leave in the near future and then it's just whatever we get from ESC until unemployment runs out. *sigh*

ETA: In some states/companies, places are required to pay for the people they lay off to go for schooling. Would your husband be up for/interested in that? I know I just filled out FAFSA last night so that I can start college in July for something in the medical field. My job right now is fairly "secure" (government/post office), but I plan to get a degree in something else secure as well. Not sure how I'll take care of 5 kids inc. a newborn, have a job, go to school and take care of the house, but desperate times call for desperate measures, right?

Today is my Brother's last day at his job. He got layed off. He works at the Paper Mill and they shut the #3 paper machine down. Although he does not work on the paper machine, he works in the wood yard, it still effects alote of jobs. The last time there was a lay off the mill offered a severence ( hope I spelled that right) package. There was nothing offered this time, just a swift kick out the door!! I will keep you and the rest of the world in my prayer's. Just remember.....Through God, all things are possible!!

I am so sorry!!! (((((Hugs)))))

We've been through this last year too. We were blessed my husband got a new job the second week of December and a better paying one at that. However, we're still playing catch up for the time he was laid off. It is not easy, and it is so stressful!

I hope he still qualifies for unemployment and someone snatches him up quickly!

My hubby has been laid off since last April....and now thats he's FINALLY 3rd on the call back list....all the sheet metal shops are cutting hours..the one he was working for is laying off about 1/2 their men soon....its bad!..and the union said it dosent look like any real work is coming in until the spring of NEXT year...

I think it is going to be a good 20 years before this is acknowledged.

It will be longer than that. Bush isn't the issue here anyway. It jut happened on his watch. At this point he's just a resident in Dallas and is out of the picture. And I can assure you he's very happy to be there. The problem this country has right now is the deregulation of the mortgage industry. The collapse of the housing market was the start of the crisis. The collapse was caused by unscrupulous lenders offering mortgages that were bound to fail. They didn't care. They have plenty of money. It has snowballed into the collapse of the American economy. Now it has spread world wide. It started with Reagan and has gradually grown from there. That includes Clinton and all the congresses in between.

This country does need the government. My parents weren't economic geniuses. A lot of those people that fell for the ARM's thought they could refi before they got hit with 12% interest payments. They are at fault for trying to get a piece of the American dream. When I was in my late 20's you had to put 20% down to get a mortgage. That was a GOVERNMENT requirement that lenders had to follow I agree government does do a lot of stuff that is wasteful and intrusive. But they are needed. They are needed to help out, not to tell us how to live our lives.

If people had read the fine print on the contracts before they signed up for ARM's allowing them to purchase more house than they could afford or NEED, then they wouldn't be in that mess in the first place. THEY are the ones at fault, not the lenders. People didn't do their homework or they got greedy, either way, they are at fault. Everyone is ultimately responsible for their own actions. No one pointed a gun and said sign on the line or the chicken gets it.

A loan document is a BINDING contract. If you don't understand it, get a lawyer. If you can't afford a lawyer, then you can't afford a house. Go rent and save some more $$ for your downpayment AND a lawyer.

I was 22 when we bought our house and I knew enough to read the fine print. Get a locked in rate, one that produces a payment you can make month in and month out. How difficult is that?

It comes down to people always wanting more more more. No personal responsibility.

The whole woe is me thing is truly overdone. We all have our own mountains to scale. Suck it up and deal. My dh and I are still "kids" to a lot of people, but we are more "adult" than most adults I know.

Wow...I assume you all have taken this off topic a bit to more of a political discussion and are not blaming people for losing their jobs, correct?
