Hypochodriacs. Do you know any?

You're right about never having enough attention! I try to discern to make sure they really aren't sick before I say "Enough!" At work I put up with them(hypo's) because it's my job. My DH is a cop and he says he can spot them a mile away now from dealing from his Mom.
Another thing I've noticed, they always have some kind of bowel and or bladder issues that they want to over describe!!

In our acute care center we could always spot them by their claiming to have maladies that cannot be diagnosed definitively. In other words, one cannot send them for a diagnostic test that would either confirm or deny their complaints as substantial.

These are also the ones that we watch for being drug seekers....chronic, but undiagnosed, pain is the primary complaint and they have used it for many doctors in the area...one only has to call any local pharmacy to see how many times they have received pain med scripts and from how many doctors.

It jades a person in health care so much to be dealing with these types of patients. Especially when you also deal with people with real illness~ who would give anything to be well.

Yep. Two brothers and a grandmother.

One brother washes his hands twenty times a day! And refuses to touch any animals or little brothers.

Now that is something one CAN diagnose...sounds like Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

I limited my hand washing from 20 times a day to 10 times a day.

And I only check the doors at night to make sure that they are locked only 3 times now before going to bed. I'm down from checking locked doors from 15 times to 3 times at night.

I got fired from my last job and lost a lot of friends because of being a "hypochondriac". Finally, after years of trying, one night in the E.R. I finally got a dr. who didn't think I was just some idiot with cramps looking for attention and he did a cat scan. Low and behold my right kidney was quadruple the size it should be. Ended up having surgery to fix it, my urologist told me it was most likely congenital and nowadays would be detected on an ultrasound and diagnosed before birth and fixed while in infancy. For me, I am just now starting to feel better, I had surgery to correct it in March. I spent the first 30 years of my life with a urinary/bladder/kidney infection 3-4 times a year minimum, kidney stones 3-4 times a year (my "cramps" the dr.s kept diagnosing me with, yea right, I hope they all get kidney stones sometime and someone gives them some ibprofren and tells them to deal with it too!

), etc. What makes me really mad is that if any of my dr's had listened to me, or even did an ultrasound or something just to shut me up, I could have been fixed a long time ago. Oh well, at least I get the rest of my life to be happy and healthy!

But it has taught me to not instantly write off someone as being hypochondriac, there could be something wrong that hasn't been found yet.

One thing I noticed about cancer patients, they were very laid back about getting their blood drawn and no drama!
