He's a mix. My first thought was maybe some type of gamefowl mix, but who knows for sure? I hope he works well in your flock and thanks for rescuing him!

I hope he works out too as he’s bigger than all of my girls. What is gamefowl?

Gamefowl are several old breeds that were originally bred for cockfighting. I was guessing that he might have some game blood in him due to his tight feathering, but it's difficult to say for sure what is in his mix, to be honest.

How big are your girls? If they are bantams then there could be a problem. Otherwise, things should be fine. Hopefully he is a gentleman.

My smallest are 2 Polish hens. The rest are larger but none as large as he is. Thank you for the education...no cockfighting here.

I think you'll be fine, then. Roosters are usually bigger than hens.
