Four of my girls have started sleeping on top of one of the coops which is fine, until tonight. Rain and sleet (E TN) and down to 31 tonight. Problem is there’s a huge car garage type tent in front of both coops since there’s so many so they can be outside & have protection from the weather during the day. This means I cant get a ladder to get up and get them to physically put them in the coop. I’ll not sleep, I’m just terrified they are gonna suffer. There’s no way to get to them and I’m just thinking of them suffering. It’s not a heavy rain/sleet but light but it’s so cold. Will they be ok?? :,( I might have to install something to keep them from roosting on their roof. I was putting up a wind sail above them and amazon didn’t send the right size tie downs and the right ones won’t be here until Monday!! At least they’d have shelter above them then

You should put them in the coop, lock them in, and leave them for the night. After that do it every night until they go in themsselves. I have trained many of my birds this way. Ummm...northern hemisphere...that's rightyou guys gave the wrong seasons. For u it will just get colder.

I can’t reach them. They got up there while we were gone and it’s impossible. That’s the issue, they can’t be reached.

Do you have a ladder? Or a tree next to it you can climb?

(sorry I am young so I still love climbing trees
You can’t get a ladder in there because of what I wrote above. There’s their huge carport tent in front of both coops, it’s their covered front porch they hang out in during the day that keep everything dry for their food and just a shady place for when it’s hot for them to go to when they want. I just hope they’ll ok. Hoping someone knows if they are wet and it gets down to 31 if they’ll be ok. I’m at a loss. Situation explained above. There’s no trees.

Ithink they should be OK.But you should train them to go inside. I dunno how to get them down sorry.

I read several accounts written in New England in the early 1900's about the best coops being pine trees. At least as far as the health of the chickens; they were vulnerable to people stealing them. Other predators were much less likely in that era.

Anyway, they surely got cold rain and sleet sometimes and didn't have problems.
