I’ve been doing my run completely wrong!

We went to a lumber yard and got a truckload of wood chips for our run...for free. We have been doing this for 3 years and it's amazing the amount of composted dirt that's been created underneath. The carbon from the wood also prevents and poopy smells and they enjoy scratching through the chips looking for treats when they aren't free ranging. The chips allow for great drainage and best of all its simple with a minor amount of effort.

i solved a lot of drainage problems in the run by adding layers of construction sand (the one with the gravel and pebbles in it) on the low spots, and especially digging a drainage ditch along the lowest edge and out from the run so the water would drain down into it.
