That is simply not true. I can only speak for one or two systems that I know in Scandinavia. Both Finland and Sweden, have systems that function extreamly well.. They have vastly better working conditions and hours, vastly better education, and health care. (This equates into a well educated healty workforce!) Look at the innovations and impacts such small tiny countries have on the world.
Yes gas is expensive, people still have homes in the suburbs and cottages by the lake... I know the numbers I know the system. I worked for a Finnish company for nearly 20 years. It works! Not saying it is right for our country on our scale but it sure works for them..

And yes! I love our country and do not want to move there....

Actually Royd the Democrats only give out welfare to keep a portion of their voting block and because they realize that it's important to take care of your population.

What personal freedoms are you talking about by the way?

Any time that the government forces me to work, in order to support someone who will not, I have become a slave. Honestly, let's just take a look at the 99er's..For those of you, who don't know, thoese are people who had unemployment benifits extended from about 1/2 yr, to almost 2 years...How many of them, intentionally, sat on their hands, because they knew that they were getting a free ride?

Where do the people get with the program and grab a shovel by the way. I heard your Governor just canceled a high speed rail that would have added a lot of jobs and brought money into your state. Sounds like he took the shovels away.

As I recall, the floods, last year, in Tennessee and maybe the Ohio Valley, were completely ignored, by the government, and the only reasonable explanation, that I can think of, was because they didn't support the current president.....They had to grab the bull by the horns, unlike New Orleans, which just stood around, and are still standing around.

That government choo choo train, known as Amtrak, or as I like to call it, Slamtrak, due its frequent accidents, has been a real winner, hasn't it....One huge government subsidy. Quite the example to go by.

Why would anyone want to work more than a few hours a day or week, when they know that the government is going to be taking 60% or more of your paycheck?
I was reading some reports, from a Swedish website, about their healthcare system...Seems, due to the socialist mentality, come summer, their season for holiday, [or vacation, as we call it,] which is about a month long, and the fact that they don't like to work real hard, you'd better not get sick, or decide to have a baby....They actually were forcing the pregnant mothers to change their own bedding, before leaving the hospital, plus a number of other mundane tasks.

And you will find that helicopter parents end up raising emotionally and mentally damaged children, who take years longer, to get out of the nest, if they ever do.....That is exactly what happens with open ended social programs, which never force people to take responsiblity for themselves.

I could point to both what could be seen as Flaming AND Trolling too.....

I'm not reporting this thread though ...... Too much entertainment

I believe other countries have a very skewed view of America. We have more freedoms than any other country with a functioning government. We are the only country that has no control at all over their press. We also have virtually no gun laws. Our social safety net sucks and our wealthy pay less than they should in taxes, but you won't see any rebellions in America. The only real social upheavals we have had were against racism and the draft.

It is still just as fruitful as it's always been. It's just that a much smaller percentage of people enjoy the fruits. As for people banding together. You might have missed the news coverage during all the flooding we had or the way people helped out during Katrina and many other disasters we have experienced.

I'm from America and have lived in many countries, so I have the lovely aspect of seeing it from both sides at the same time. We (the Commonwealth) definitely do have more freedoms, except we are not allowed guns like the Americans. A lot of Americans would consider this a very large freedom. But I consider the right to health and food an even bigger one. (Though with proper licencing we are still allowed guns, so that does not bother me. To get a handgun I -MUST- go to a range once a month... I think this is good.)

I was in America for Katrina. I know how it worked. I was referencing against the governments, not natural disasters - as it appeared ours was caused by government. The people are fighting as they help their neighbours.

Sure. Since I'm pretty much a recluse, I have lots of conversations locked in my head...I can entertain, for hours.
