Should we not be proud of our nation?

Is it really THAT bad here?

Let me know which facts are wrong with my link and I will IMMEDIATELY take the link down.

Of course we should be proud of our nation but we shouldn't be blinded by that pride so that we don't take action when there are things that are blatantly wrong. We have politicians running on platforms where they preach that judges and politicians who don't agree with them should be killed....of course they couch it in catch phrases so they can't be taken to task for it later but it's out there.
We have a country that would rather pay hundreds of dollars to see the latest, greatest football player or rock star who gets paid millions of dollar than to pay an extra dollar on their taxes so that underpaid teachers will stick around to teach our undereducated children.
We have big businesses who would rather pollute us and sue us than research technologies that will clean our world and heal us.
Is this just in America? Oh no, but we're supposed to be better, more idealistic, younger, more energetic. We should be fixing this world of ours and charging other countries for the technologies we develop instead of being the biggest parasite on the face of the earth. We consume more and waste more than anyone while we produce less. Something has to change and only a country with the vision and energy that Americans have can do it.

We have alot of work ahead of us! But lets not forget, we do good things too, things that we can and should be proud of. And like you stated so elegantly...
"Something has to change and only a country with the vision and energy that Americans have can do it."

Our innovation is one of our greatest strengths. Lets work TOGETHER and get ourselves out of this mess we have dug ourselves so deeply into.

Thank you for having this discussion with me, no hard feelings.

virtuous:Having or showing high moral standards.
That I don't see...

When the floods his Australia, there was a lot of work to be done. We found out later it may have been the governments fault entirely for the floods, since they didn't slowly release the dam water like they were supposed to.

Everyone was covered in mud. Everyone was ticked. And yet you could see hundreds and hundred of people standing in lines waiting for a broom, shovel or pen to sign their name - as the background bore proudly. "Queenslanders Never Give Up". When the first day of public volunteer sign ups came - they didn't have enough pens with enough ink for the people. They came in armies, they left in armies, holding weapons of mops and buckets, armour of gum boots and face masks.

Australians banded together and helped each other fix the nation that had been broken so quicky and so heartwrenchingly. Strangers helped strangers. Strangers loved strangers.

I think America can be like this but has been taught to be afraid of their own neighbour, in a way. They WILL rise up, I think. I can see it boiling, the anger. The new TSA laws, the new Monsanto laws, the problems with healthcare... all of it... Americans don't LIKE it. But... just like the way Australians didn't like their government and didn't like their situation - they worked with it. They fought, they made it their own, they did something - because they couldn't sit back.

I full believe once the water has been boiling long enough for the people to want to jump the pot, everyone who felt the same heat is going to be in the kitchen instead of the soup. They'll band together, unlike they have in many many years. The only problem currently is getting enough together. Everyone is ticked Everyone wants something done - everyone is just deathly afraid of being arrested, trialed, going broke, being hungry, dying... all the things that can come with change.

But I believe once Americans are tired of feeling the government's breath upon their backs for long enough, they will fight and they will fight together. America needed this, I think. I think the American people need to stand up so they can TRULY feel freedom again. Because the American people are fantastic and the American country is fantastic - but it is no longer free. You can compare it to other 3rd world nations, but compare it to other 1st world ones - it is not as free. It is not as fruitful. It used to be. Oh it used to be SO powerful, so happy.. and the people had a real pride in every aspect of their country.

The pride is still there because deep down Americans KNOW they have it in them to change all this and they KNOW they will. Sadly, they just haven't figured out when. Or how.
