@ pdsavage

Have you ever heard of checking your sources credibility?

Apparently not...

http://www.virtualsalt.com/evalu8it.htm

"Remember that to locate fair, objective material, you must be fair and objective, too. A major error that too many researchers make is to look only for sources whose ideas, findings, or arguments they already agree with."

I could sit here for an hour and find 10,000,000 articles, and blogs that agree with me on google, but if their not credible or ubiased what is the bother? Every single source you cited was BIASED. Many happen to be FROM the UK as noted in their URL. People from the UK talking about americans...duh! Seriously, the New York Times? They are quite a bit left dont you think? You even cited something from a BLOG lmao

That is the problem with many people these days, they believe everything they see on the internet. lol

Try some real research next time and then we can talk.

Sorry was in a hurry my husband wanted on.
Your opinion and mine just don't match up.
Tell me the source thats not valid information?

I believe America has a lot of work to do to get back to its glory days.

I have 2 family members that just came back from Iraq,my father served this country for 20 years in the army.I have 2 brothers that served in the armed forces. My step son will be going to either Iraq,Afghanistan or Pakistan this year.
I have pride in them.I have pride in every LEO who put on that badge every day,for every fire men dealing with budget cuts while trying to save lives.
But America as a whole no way....America have lost it's way along with it's morals and values.

what is this left you speak of anyway?

The only thing we can do is try and make our ideal America a reality. I appreciate your families service and I will pray for your step sons safety.

IMO this left and right horse pucky, is a big part of the problem. These grave issues that face our country should not be partisan. Yes one can have liberal or conservative thoughts or ideas, but again it need not be partisan. IMO..

Here is a chart on health care Published by National Geographic. Know I am not sure if that is deemed "left" these days or not... Sometimes it seems like any source of media besides FOX news is considered left wing radical the past few years....

The article from the NY Times was from the Times science section, one of the best in the country. It was referencing an article in the New England Journal of Medicine, one of the most respected peer reviewed magazines in the world. So maybe the Times leans left, maybe it doesn't, but not looking at the article before discounting it as poor research is just sloppy!!!! Speaking of checking your sources!

In my mind loving your country has little to do with flag waving and being glad your country is "One nation, under God". Loving your country is about civic responsibility, voting, being a part of your community, giving back instead of taking, and working for the changes you believe in. It is believing that you can make your country the best place possible. I think many things about the US are better than the used to be; we have eliminated much of the racial injustices that have plagued our country, we are more accepting of others, we allow free and open communication and elections. However, we are not perfect. We have become so politically divided that polite discourse is almost impossible, we tend to be intolerant of other religions, and we have problems with education and many other things.

I think that one can love one's country and recognize it flaws; just as a person can love their spouse and recognize that s/he is not perfect. That doesn't make my spouse or my country the best for everyone. I think there are some countries that handle certain things far better than this country does; and they also handle some things in ways that I think are awful. Just like my hubby, even with his flaws I don't intend to replace him; I don't intend to replace my country. Although this thread hasn't gone that direction, I've heard more than once that if I don't share the kind of patriotism that some people show, then I must not love my country and I should leave.

If you had REALLY read that article and UNDERSTOOD it then you would have come to the conclusion that it had many VARIABLES. She even admitted that she found them fast without checking.

"The new study analyzed data gathered about 4,857 nondiabetic American Indian children born between 1945 and 1984, when the children were 11 years old on average, and assessed the extent to which body mass index, glucose tolerance, blood pressure and total cholesterol levels predicted premature death."

First off that tell us this study was done using kids at LEAST 20-30 years ago. So what that means, for those who have half a brain...The study is NOT RELEVANT for people who live now. Second it was done using AMERICAN INDIAN CHILDREN! So that throws the whole study out right there.

Good game and before you try correcting someone next time get a highschool education and learn to read.

Oh and if you dont think the New York Times is left wing.
"Nearly one in three American children is now considered to be either overweight or obese, and this week, the first lady, Michelle Obama, kicked off a campaign intended to end childhood obesity."
Hmmmmm......I wonder why they mentioned THAT?! Or even who paid for this article to be published in the first place!?
And that brings me to my second conclusion that the New York Times is an irrelevant, biased piece of trash.

America has some problems. But I happen to like it here. I like this whole planet. It has problems too, but if it were perfect, why would we bother? We are all in it together after all. Tough choices are being made, with or without you. I wish people would worry more about the problems they create instead of everyone else's though. But then here I go trying to change people.

It's too bad that even a nice conversation about how we all love our country can start to break down into left vs right vitriol and anyone who doesn't agree with me needs a better education. This is what those overpaid pundits want so they can make their millions. They want us at each other's throats and they WANT this country to fall apart rather than to make concessions and meet where we agree. Sad, sad, sad....
