Okay, those eggs that I "accidentally" bought are in lockdown. Four bouncing babies are out and being adorable in the brooder
.
I had to take them out because they were playing soccer with the other eggs. I had a total of 12 out of 14 eggs with pips. The first one to pip had pipped through the side of a tiny little egg and I have been sitting on my hands to keep from messing with it - Finally 36 hours after it pipped I couldn't take it anymore and I hatched the little bugger out. There was some blood in the membrane (it was bleeding a bit when it pipped - it pipped the wrong place). Now it's just laying on it's side, breathing sort of fast
.
I'm so freaking out. I hope I didn't cause it more harm than good. And I hope the rest of the chicks hatch okay - I have an ultrasonic humidifier hooked up to my hatcher (DH built it) so the humidity level goes back up within a minute or two after I open the lid. But I'm still feeling nervous that I messed up.
Thank you Sonjab314 and easttxchick - the little one is breathing about twice as fast as the other chicks. I think it cut through one of the big veins in the membrane when it pipped and didn't absorb all the blood it was s'posed to. Anyone ever gone through this before? I'm wondering if it has a chance.
On a brighter note another little bugger just hatched, and it appears healthy as can be.
