Not sure when i will get my Pekin eggs... Just ordered them yesterday and sent an email asking when they were planning on mailing out so i'd know when to expect them. Hopefully they mail them out today just so that they are sitting over the weekend at the post office... I got a phone call a few min ago from my mother in law... she planned a surprise birthday party for my DH brother the same weekend she knew my grandma was coming to visit me and she has know for MONTHS she was flying to come see us. She does this on purpose i swear it. So i may have to drive out on friday night till sat before my grandma comes in to do this birthday party... Another bummer is my del eggs aren't suppose to go into lockdown till monday... who will turn them on friday till sat? and what if my eggs come in the mail and are out on my porch all night...

Last time I hatched anything I had a 4 or 5% hatch cause of dum bator and unfertile eggs

Thats unfortunate!

what kinda of bator do you use again? I have been making my own homemade bators. Thats all i've used. DH offered to buy me a new bator but the two "cooler"

ones i have work great! My temps stay in the 98.5-102.5 range once i have it going and i have a pretty easy time raising and lowering my humidity when need be. I'm nervous about the duck eggs but i think since i now have several hatches under my belt i will do better. Plus i think i will be getting FERTILE eggs this time!

I wanted some call duck eggs but hubby likes it when i get "dual purpose" birds. He enjoys the cycle of life and always thanks animals after hunts and so on for giving there life to nurish his family. I may have to get a couple call ducks eventually and just tell him no no these are babies we dont eat when they get old or what not! lol

I've loved ducks since i was a little girl i can't describe my excitement.... wish they didn't take so long in the bator lol

Try to make one if you can! Its fun! And you can get most of the items cheap and easy. I had one cooler and I bought my 2nd one at a garage sale for $5 bucks. You need a light fixture which I got from wal mart $6 bucks, 40w light bulb, computer fan I got from best buy $10, hardware cloth $10, small tupperware containers for water at bottom, a adapter to wire up to the fan I used an old phone adapter, glass panel for window, duck tape to seal all holes drilled or caulk... Oh and some tubing to put into containers and run out so duringlockdown you don't have to open. There are several good cooler projects on here in coop design area...

I use my LGs as hatchers now-got a cabinet incubator from a friend of mine and it'll hold MANY, MANY eggs.

I've thought about hatching out some quail-I think my husband would love them, but I don't know anything about raising them.
Anyone know what the actual name of bobwhite quail is? That's what I'd like to have-I love to listen to them.
