I accidentally bought some eggs! Oops!!

I had the same problem but I started locking them up earlyier and letting them out later in the day. I lock them up at 4:00-4:30p.m. and let them out around 6:00-7:00a.m. It made a big difference in the cleanness of the eggs they were laying.
I wouldnt ever wash them cause it can make germs and etc soak through the shell into the egg and killing the potential chick.

It's all about genetics, ducklover1.
What's lurking in their genetics determines EVERYTHING.
Not that you asked, but the beginnings of all Calls(and other domestic breeds) is from Mallards(which are the original grays).
Clear as mud?
You can get a "surprise" out of most birds IF there are some unknowns in their background-that makes it kinda fun, in my opinion.
